Carrying a 0-1 first-leg away victory into the return at the Alfredo di Stéfano Stadium, Zinedine Zidane’s men started brightly and took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to Karim Benzema’s opener. Captain Sergio Ramos doubled the lead on the night from the penalty spot after Vinicius Jr. was fouled inside the box before Marco Asensio secured progression after the visitors had pulled a goal back. Midfield maestro Luka Modric played a starring role and won the man-of-the-match.
