Thomas Hitzlsperger (born in Munich, 1982) has been named 125th anniversary ambassador of the month for April, joining Jon Rahm, Jokin Altuna and Honey Tahljieh on the list of Athletic Club ambassadors.
The former Germany international, who played for sides such as Aston Villa, VfB Stuttgart and Everton FC, has been recognised for his courage and determination in supporting people who have been excluded from the sport or society because of their sexual orientation.
Hitzlsperger said: “My contribution is to use my voice, my visibility as a former footballer at the highest level, to support all those people who are being discriminated against. I want to include people who feel excluded.”
