Plymouth stunned the home crowd by taking the lead with their first and only shot as Maksym Talovierov headed home from a Sorinola corner. However, City responded just before halftime through Nico O’Reilly’s header from a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick.
The second half was one-way traffic, with City firing 28 shots. O’Reilly struck again in the 76th minute before De Bruyne sealed the win late on, adding a goal to his earlier assist.
