Everton’s unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt end at Villa Park as the host struck three times – through Matty Cash, an own goal and Leon Bailey – in the second half to take the points. The Blues had been hit by injuries to Jordan PIckford, Richarlison and Seamus Coleman, to add to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, so there were Premier League debuts for Salomon Rondon and Asmir Begovic, but they could not prevent defeat.
